Day 11 - Beijing Zoo/Olympic Park

Today we explored the city via the subway.  We found the Beijing Zoo and the Olympic Park where the 2008 Olympics were held.  It was a hot, muggy day but much clearer than the previous two days.
We have learned not to step in anything wet on the ground.  Kids of toddler age in China are allowed to pee anywhere they please.  On more than three occasions we have seen parents stop with their children in the middle of the sidewalk to let the child relieve themselves.  We even saw a parent hold their child up to go in a trashcan.

Hey Jeremy and Leslie, I've enjoyed reading your trip updates. The pictures are great!

What is the city doing with the Olympic stadium these days? Is it still used as a stadium?

Mom - We haven't had time to oversleep by any means. Sleep is reserved for our vacation in our vacation when we get to Australia :)

Toni - The Olympic Stadium is used for concerts and other events. We were a bit surprised at how worn down the stadium has become in four years time. Half of the Cube (the aquatics center) was turned into a water park for kids and other half is still used for swim competitions. The Village for the athletes was turned into apartments. As for the rest of the Olympic Park, we aren't sure what they are doing with it.

Cathy - Thanks for following the blog. We will keep the updates coming.
