Day 3 in the Bavarian Alps

Today we drove south out of Munich and stopped in Faistenhaar where Leslie's ancestors are from.  To make a long story short we met an old couple outside a church who knew a distant aunt down the road from the church.  We were able to connect with the aunt and are returning on friday for a family reunion and a German BBQ; it should be fun.  We then continued on to Berchtesgaden, Germany.  Our afternoon was spent at one of Hitler's retreats called the Eagle's Nest.  The retreat was built in 1938 for Hitler as a gift from the ruling party for his 50th birthday.

And I got my first traffic ticket in Europe as well.  After crossing into Austria we got off the highway and were stopped at a checkpoint.  Apparently we were supposed to stop at a gas station and buy a toll sticker (€11) at the border.  Instead of giving the tourists a warning and telling us where to get a sticker, he charged me €120 ($150.00 USD). Oh well, I guess that's what we get for not being informed.
