We left Telfs, Austria and drove to the Neuschwanstein Castle near Fussen, Germany. This is the castle that the Disney castle was based off of at Disney World in Florida. Although the castle was made to look old, it was actually finished in the 1880's. In the US that may sound old, but given the age of the castles in Bavaria and the surrounding area, this is very "new."
In Europe it rains almost everyday. Leslie says this is Europe's best kept secret. The mountains are magnificent. Unlike the Rocky Mountains, the mountains here are shear rock; they rise quickly which forms deep valleys where towns are situated and the roads and the rivers run. I would describe the Alps and say they have the scale of the Rockies with the lush vegetation and moisture of Smokies.
Tomorrow we meet up with Leslie's distant relatives in Faistenhaar, Germany before ending up in Munich for our departure for China on Saturday.
