Day 13 - Silk Market and Acrobatics Show

Today, we hit up the infamous Silk Market, which is home to just about any knock-off item you can think of. Breitling watch? Sure. Ping golf clubs? No problem. Louis Vuitton bag? Special price for you.  I (Leslie) was in search of a clutch purse to bring to numerous weddings this fall and Jeremy was in search of a t-shirt with funny sayings written in English. I decided on a knock-off Tory Burch bag and asked how much. Special price, 560 RMB (or 88 USD). I can almost get a real one for that much! After I stopped laughing, I came back at 50 RMB (8USD). She came down as far as 120 RMB, and I was at 65 RMB (10 USD) before I walked away. It didn't take long for them to yell down the corridor to accept 65. Now the real question is... how long will this purse last? I'll be satisfied if it lasts through this years' wedding season :-) Unfortunately Jeremy was not so lucky in his search for a t-shirt. Apparently the vendors find it offensive if we laugh at t-shirts that read "Hairy arms, Marlboro" (I'm not exaggerating). Jeremy even got swatted at by a vendor for laughing!

To round out the day, we went to an acrobatics show. We had heard good things about it, but I wasn't getting my hopes up. I've seen a few too many cheesy shows to have high expectations. Much to our delight, however, the show was fantastic! There were absurdly flexible people, really strong guys who could contort themselves in strange ways, and numerous people who could balance on random objects. There was even a giant metal ball which motorcycles rode around (and upside-down) in; up to eight at a time!

Enjoying some pre-show refreshments, aka the tiniest bag of skittles ever

Bowls, on two women's heads, on a man; all this while the man rolls from stomach to back

Ouch.

 Intermission.

I can't even ride my bike with no hands. Impressive.
